The Pangainoon Karate Program is there for the students who just want to learn new techniques and are not interested to learn the full content of Uechi-Ryu Karate-Do Core Systems (8 katas).

A bit of History

Pangainoon Karate, the precursor to Uechi-Ryu, has unique characteristics that distinguish it from other martial arts styles. Rooted in Chinese Southern Kung Fu and adapted in Okinawa, Pangainoon (半硬軟) means “half hard, half soft,” reflecting its duality in training and technique.
Below are its specificities:

Hard and Soft Balance:

  • The “hard” refers to linear, powerful strikes and blocks, while the “soft” encompasses fluid, circular movements that redirect force.
  • This duality is essential, enabling both offense and defense with efficiency and adaptability.

Chinese Origins (Southern Kung Fu):

  • Derived from Fujian White Crane, Tiger, and Dragon Kung Fu styles.
  • It incorporates techniques focused on precision, explosiveness, and internal energy (Qi).

Natural Body Movements:

  • Pangainoon emphasizes natural postures and efficient body mechanics to generate power.
  • Techniques are compact, avoiding exaggerated stances or movements, making them practical for real-life combat.

Core Sanchin Kata:

  • The foundational kata, Sanchin, builds physical and mental discipline.
  • It focuses on breathing, posture, tension, and muscle conditioning while teaching rooting and focus.

Three Animal Principles:

  • Tiger: Strength, power, and grounded stances.
  • Crane: Balance, agility, and precision in strikes.
  • Dragon: Spirit, adaptability, and the use of Qi for internal power.
